The Beatings: “Brighter than Bright”

Combing through the Old-Ipod-Archives as I drove from Knoxville to Bloomington yesterday eve, this old gem came on. It takes me back to the inaugural year the Pilot Light was open. The Beatings was one of the first, (and strangely-enough, even after all of these years, still one of my favorite) Pilot Light shows I attended. I knew nothing about them before they played, but it was everything my eighteen-year-old ears were after. “All dressed up … showing everywhere you’ve been …” 

This track + a few others have me thinking I might try my hand at a “Favorite out-of-towners play the pilot light 2001-2004” mix. That of course I would kindly load for your listening pleasure. Some Centimeters, MileMarker (when Roby did that amazing redscare puppet show?!), Long Live Death (who had a member of the Oxes!—who played on boxes?!), Nora Vany Keyes … I am so five-years-ago. …whew.
